List of major Finfish produced through aquaculture in the world.


As per FAO “The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2018” (SOFIA-2018) aquaculture production in 2016 comprised 80.0 million tonnes of food fish. Aquaculture food fish production comprised 54.1 million tonnes of finfish. Major 10 fish species produced in world aquaculture-2016 are given below. Among IMC two fish are in the top 10 list.

 1.Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus). Contribution of total production:-11%



     

 2. Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix). Contribution of total production:-10%







 3. Common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Contribution of total production:-8% 




4. Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Contribution of total production:-8% 



5. Bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis). Contribution of total production:-7%  




 6. Carassius spp. Contribution of total production:-6%


 7. Catla (Catla catla):- Contribution of total production:-6%





 8. Freshwater fishes nei, Osteichthyes :- Contribution of total production:-4%


 9. Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar):- Contribution of total production:-4%
