About the job :
Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, Malaysia, and Sweden will all be involved in the new Norad-funded project "Development and Scaling of Sustainable Feeds for Resilient Aquatic Food Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa (FASA)". WorldFish is looking for a Research Assistant who has been recruited nationwide to help the Scientist (Fish Feeds and Nutrition) reach the project's objective in Zambia. Under the supervision of the WorldFish Country Director, Zambia and Southern Africa, and the WorldFish Project Leader, based in Malaysia, the main goal of this role is to support the implementation of the FASA project in Zambia.
The candidate will concentrate on putting into practice top-notch applied research on fish nutrition and feeds in both lab and field settings. Specific responsibilities will include scoping new, sustainable local ingredients, evaluating the nutritional value and digestibility of local feeds and ingredients, estimating the nutrient requirements of African catfish and tilapia strains native to the area, educating aquaculture stakeholders, communicating with the public, and publishing scientific and technical articles.
The chosen applicant will:
Take the lead on the Zambian project.
Create and carry out scoping for ingredients in Zambia.
Create, carry out, and document the nutrition and fish feed trials in Zambia that are conducted in labs and on farms.
Publicize scientific, technical, and outreach articles.
Cooperate with the Project Leader situated at the Malaysian headquarters.
Create fruitful collaborations with important national and international research institutes and universities to support research in Zambia.
To scale up research discoveries, cultivate fruitful relationships with development partners and investors in the public and commercial sectors.
Mentor interns and BSc/MSc students from domestic and foreign colleges and organisations that are working on the project.
- Plan, organize, execute and report on project progress in dialogue with senior as well as junior staff/employees and external partners.
- Contribute to resource mobilization for further feeds work in Zambia and in other WF countries.
- All other duties that may be required from time to time.
